On the road

Road tripping is a very under appreciated form of travel these days. Everyone is in a hurry to get from "A" to "B" on the map. The idea of getting out and seeing the country seems almost antiquated today.

The American landscape is vast in a way that I believe only someone from another country can really, truly appreciate. I've currently been on the road for over 15 hours. Awake for most of that. We have crossed a part of the great plains, the mighty Mississippi River, and are currently working our way through the Smoky Mountains. Impressive? Yes. Awe inspiring? At times.

Even at that, I'm conflicted within myself. These great, amazing, might parts of our national landscape are being flown through at 70 mph on a superhighway. I desperately want to get where I'm headed, but mourn the lost chance to get there slowly and learn more about these places.

Blogging gone mobile

My hope is that the availability of an iPad/iPhone and mobile Internet will keep me blogging more frequently. The question is, will this make my already suspect writing skills even that much more watered down? Probably.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to resurrect a blog you haven't interacted with in over five years? No, you don't. You are someone who keeps up with your blog. I, however, am not. I am here to tell you that it is infuriatingly complicated. I'm going to try this blogging thing again. Thank god for mulligans.

And the World Moves On

Well, I leave for a few months and what do you people do? Yeah, nothing. I have nothing witty or profound to fire out there tonight. I wanted to update this blog to prove to myself I hadn't abandoned it. It's not like anyone else reads it.

I'll try to come up with something profound and check back in soon.

You know, sometimes people from Oklahoma wonder why others around the world have this "Grapes of Wrath" view of us. Well, here you go. Exhibit A.

Wow! A month. Sorry, I didn't realize it had been that long. Well, we've been quite busy with the boat and finishing up the summer.

I just got home a few minutes ago from taking my oldest to school. Her first day. She was all decked out in a cute dress with ruffle socks and Keds. So cute. She has been really nervous the last couple of days with stomach aches and all. I didn't really expect her to be so uptight about this change as she pretty well goes with the flow, so to speak.

Well, we get to the school and she's all better. She's ready to go to class. NOW! We had to wait a few minutes for the teacher to open the class. Once we got inside, I took a couple of pictures of her. After a minute or two she kinda looked at me funny and said, "Okay, Daddy, you can go now." Ouch.

I guess that's what we're supposed to do as parents, raise them up, teach them, give them confidence and a positive self-image. So they can tell us to get lost.

I'm gonna go play with the little one. At least she still likes me.

The Grass is always greener

My lawn is getting a little tall. I guess I better get out there and mow it.

The Summer Sun Beckons

I've been remiss in keeping up with things lately. As I see there are no visitors, this doesn't appear to be much of an issue.

We have a new addition to the family, a new Sea Ray 180 boat. She is a jealous child and requires much of our free time. I'll try to keep up with some of our growing pains as we all get to know the "new girl" in the family.

For now, so long, and see you on the water.

They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot.

Everyday on my way to work, I pass the "Riverwalk" development in thriving Moore, OK. Now, this area has neither a river, nor anyplace to walk really. Except from your car to the myriad low-middle end retail businesses in the area. I was not really opposed to this construction, as if it really would have mattered if I was. I think the name is stupid, but otherwise it's just another retail bump on the map.

My indifference to this so-called "Riverwalk" ended a few weeks ago. Up until now, the develpment has stayed on the south side of a major road in the area. On the north side of said road, was the local Wal-Mart. North of the Wal-Barn was a nice patch of trees that has managed to remain unscathed through the last several years of develpment. These trees are now gone. ALL of them. Probably 20 acres of trees.

This is an area (central Oklahoma) where trees are few and far between to begin with. I'm not sure I have a suggestion as to what they should have done. Leave some of the trees and build around them? Build on the other side of the interstate where there are no trees, and a crumbling deserted development already in place? I just know the trees are gone.

And I wish they weren't.

Ooops. Posted by Hello
Well, I've gone and done it. I've joined the bleating flock and created a blog. You'll be bored to tears here. I can assure you of that. So, don't look at me in that tone of voice. I didn't force you to come here.

I'm not quite sure yet what I want this place to be, but I'll try not to get fired from my job.
